BREAKING TRADITION - NEW ADVENTURES IN TRAD MUSIC IN IRELAND (TRADITIONAL MUSIC)
A series of traditional and folk artists talk about breaking through barriers, driving ambition, showcasing internationally and career longevity. The individual traditional artist is the foundation of the traditional arts. There is consensus that access to the relevant support and information is impeding traditional artists from having more ambitious and long term careers. The short term nature of career-planning associated with the gigging economy presents challenges, as well as gaps, in infrastructure relating to career management, marketing and promotion plus the use of new technologies. Yet despite all this, artists from across Ireland are breaking the mould by showcasing at SXSW and making changes to their industry, all while blazing the trail for the next generation. Join us to hear more about how they’re making positive changes happen.
